The legend КЫРГЫЗ РЕСПУБЛИКАСЫ arcs along the upper rim of the medallion and ОН ТЫЙЫН along the lower, with the bold numeral 10 at upper left and lower right corners. |

The tyiyn denominations of 1993 were Kyrgyzstan's first independent currency, introduced after the som's predecessor — the Russian ruble — collapsed in purchasing power following the Soviet breakup. Kyrgyzstan was among the last Central Asian republics to exit the ruble zone, finally doing so in May 1993. These fractional notes were never intended for long-term use; inflation rendered them obsolete almost immediately, and the 10 tyiyn in particular had negligible real value within months of issue.
Surviving unCirculated examples are more common than their brief lifespan suggests — large quantities were held back before meaningful circulation could occur.
