Additional information

Struck to commemorate Naser al-Din Shah's 1876 celebration marking thirty years on the Qajar throne — one of the longest reigns in the dynasty's history — this is among the heaviest gold issues produced by the Imperial Iranian Mint in the nineteenth century. The jubilee itself was a calculated political exercise, staged partly to project stability at a moment when Qajar authority was being steadily eroded by competing Russian and British imperial pressures.

KM# 900.1 distinguishes this from related jubilee strikings by mint location. Survivors in problem-free condition are scarce; many pieces were treated as bullion gifts and subsequently mounted or cleaned.
