| Obverse description | The crowned quartered arms of Brunswick-Lüneburg occupy the centre of the field, supported on either side by two standing wild men rendered in neoclassical style, each draped only in a leafy loincloth and facing inward toward the shield. The ducal crown surmounts the arms above. The curved legend WILHELM HERZOG arcs across the upper field, while the inscription Z. BR. U. L. appears in the lower field beneath the supporters. |

William of Brunswick was restored to power in 1830 after his brother Charles II was driven out by revolution — one of the ripple effects of the July Revolution in Paris that toppled Charles X. The new duke moved quickly to issue coinage that projected legitimacy, and this 10 Thaler piece was among the first struck under his authority.
Brunswick's gold coinage of this period conformed to the conventions of the German thaler system before unification made such regional issues obsolete.
