| 表面の説明 | Bare-headed right-facing effigy of Grand Duke Paul Frederick of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, rendered in high relief with finely detailed hair. The truncation of the bust is sharply cut, typical of Berlin Mint workmanship of the period. A beaded inner border frames the design. The surrounding circular legend reads PAUL FRIEDR GROSSHERZOG V MECKLENBURG SCHWERIN, interrupted at the base by the bust truncation. |

Paul Frederick, Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, died in March 1842 after a reign of just over five years — long enough to authorize this gold issue but short enough that the total struck remained limited. Mecklenburg-Schwerin's gold coinage of this period was never produced in large quantities; the duchy's economy ran primarily on silver thalers and copper pfennig, making any gold emission something of an administrative statement rather than a commercial necessity.
The .896 fineness aligns with the broader German states' gold standard of the period before the Prussian-led push toward unified coinage standards later in the century.
