George III never set foot in Hannover, and by 1813 was in the final years of a debilitating mental illness that left him entirely removed from governance. These gold 10-Thaler pieces were struck under the authority of his son, the future George IV, acting as Prince Regent — yet they bear the father's name, a political formality maintained to preserve dynastic legitimacy during the chaotic final campaigns against Napoleon in northern Germany.
The 1813–1814 dating places production squarely within the period of Hannover's liberation from French occupation, which had begun in 1803.
