Syria's Central Bank was established in 1956, replacing the Institut d'Émission de Syrie — itself a relic of the French Mandate currency arrangements. The P#95 series falls across a politically turbulent stretch: the 1966 Ba'athist coup, the catastrophic loss of the Golan Heights in 1967, and the corrective movement that brought Hafez al-Assad to power in 1970. Notes issued across this range carry the same basic design despite the regime changes, reflecting how little the banking infrastructure was disrupted by the political upheaval above it.

The date range on surviving examples varies, and earlier issues from 1965–66 tend to show heavier circulation wear than post-1970 printings.
