| Beschrijving keerzijde | A standing female figure personifying the Maid of Holland, draped in classical robes, occupies the center of the field. She leans with her right arm resting upon a decorated altar or column at right, while her left hand holds a spear or staff upright. A hat of liberty is perched atop the staff. The figure is rendered in a refined baroque style with fine detail in the drapery. The Latin motto is divided across the field to either side of the figure, with a beaded inner border encircling the design. |

Holland's stuiver coinage of the mid-eighteenth century was produced under the fiscal strain of the War of Austrian Succession and its aftermath, when the Republic's finances were badly stretched and the provincial mints were under pressure to maintain output. The States of Holland operated one of the most commercially active minting programs among the seven provinces, supplying silver for both domestic circulation and the Republic's enormous overseas trade network through the VOC.
The slanted reeding variety — distinguishing this piece from the straight-reeded Ver#54.1 — reflects a change in edge-processing equipment at the Dordrecht or Enkhuizen mint during this fourteen-year window. Not a reform, simply a mechanical consequence that catalogers have since used to split the type.
