Reverse description The reverse presents a standing allegorical female figure, classically draped in flowing robes and wearing a helmet, personifying the armed Liberty or Vigilance of the Dutch provinces. She holds a long staff or spear in her raised left hand, aloft with a wide-brimmed hat, while her right hand rests upon an ornate altar or plinth adorned with decorative relief work. The surrounding Latin legend 'HAC NITIMVR HANC TVEMVR' ('On this we depend, this we protect') encircles the design within a fine toothed border, the whole composition executed in high relief in the Baroque style.
