Soudicy is a local complementary currency (monnaie locale complémentaire, or MLC) issued by an association based in the Allier department of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. These currencies operate under the framework established by the French Social and Solidarity Economy law of 2014, which for the first time gave MLCs legal footing in France — there are now over eighty such currencies in circulation nationwide, each pegged one-to-one with the euro and redeemable only through participating local merchants.
Printed in France on paper rather than the polymer substrate now favored by several larger MLCs, the Soudicy notes are produced in small runs by the issuing association itself.
