| 正面描述 | The national coat of arms of the Kyrgyz Republic is depicted centrally within the silver inner disc, showing a tunduk (the top of a yurt) over mountains and an eagle, encircled by wheat sheaves and a wreath, with the legend КЫРГЫЗ РЕСПУБЛИКАСЫ around the inner border. Two stylized Kyrgyz ornamental motifs (uzor) flank the coat of arms in the field. The date 2011 appears in the lower exergue. The commemorative legend НЕЗАВИСИМОЙ КЫРГЫЗСКОЙ РЕСПУБЛИКЕ - 20 ЛЕТ is inscribed along the outer ring, in Cyrillic script. The outer ring features a repeating pattern of traditional Kyrgyz decorative elements. |

Issued to mark the twentieth anniversary of Kyrgyz independence, declared in August 1991 following the collapse of Soviet authority in the republic. The som itself was introduced only in 1993, replacing the Soviet ruble at a time when Kyrgyzstan was among the first former Soviet states to launch its own currency — a decision driven partly by Russia's delay in supplying ruble banknotes to the region.
The bimetallic construction, silver centre within a gold ring, was produced in limited quantities as a commemorative and never entered general circulation.
