Saimaalu-Tash — literally "embroidered stones" in Kyrgyz — is one of the largest concentrations of petroglyphs in Central Asia, with an estimated 90,000 images carved into volcanic rock at elevations above 3,000 meters in the Fergana Range. The site spans multiple epochs from the Bronze Age through the early medieval period. Kyrgyzstan has issued several collector coins tied to its pre-Islamic archaeological heritage, partly as a deliberate national identity project following independence from the Soviet Union in 1991.
