The golden eagle holds particular cultural weight in Kyrgyzstan beyond mere national symbolism — falconry with trained golden eagles has been practiced by Kyrgyz nomads for over two millennia and remains a living tradition, with the annual October hunting competitions in Ölgii drawing practitioners from across Central Asia.
