Additional information

Issued as part of Kyrgyzstan's early commemorative program following independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, this piece belongs to a series celebrating the country's alpine natural heritage. The edelweiss holds particular cultural weight in Central Asian mountain communities — not merely as an ornamental symbol but as a plant associated with high-altitude herbal medicine practiced across the Tian Shan range.

KM#5 is one of the scarcer early Kyrgyz silver issues, with the National Bank's commemorative output in this period running to modest mintages as the country's numismatic infrastructure was still being established.
