Central intaglio vignette of Liberty seated, holding a staff in her right hand and resting her left arm on a shield bearing a sunface motif, with a Phrygian cap on a pedestal inscribed LIBERTAD beside her; the vignette is framed within an oval guilloche border with the legend PAGARA AL PORTADOR arching above. Denomination numeral 10 appears in large guilloche rosettes at left and right, with the bank title across the top, series and serial number in red at lower left and upper right, place and date at lower right, and three manuscript signature panels at the foot. |

The P#84 series runs across an unusually long window for a single design — six years during which Peru's economy was under mounting inflationary pressure, and the sol de oro was steadily losing purchasing power. By the late 1960s, denominations that had once represented meaningful transactions were becoming routine pocket change, which partly explains why notes from the later dates in this series show heavy circulation wear far more often than early dates.
Thomas De La Rue's engraved intaglio work on this series is among the finer examples of their South American commissions from the period.
