Carlo VI ruled Milan as Holy Roman Emperor following the War of the Spanish Succession, which transferred the duchy from Spanish to Austrian Hapsburg control in 1706. This tiny silver piece belongs to the subsequent monetary reorganization imposed on the Milanese system — a sustained effort to displace the older Spanish-derived denominations with coinage that reflected the new imperial administration in Vienna.
At barely half a gram of silver, the actual bullion content was negligible even by the standards of the day.
