Biafra ceased to exist as a state in January 1970, when federal Nigerian forces completed their reconquest after a brutal thirty-month civil war that killed somewhere between one and three million people, mostly Igbo civilians. Any coin bearing its name issued in 2020 is a fantasy piece — produced by a private mint exploiting the name for collector sales, with no issuing authority, no monetary system, and no population that ever used it.
