The coin exhibits the characteristic milled edge and inner bead circle typical of Edinburgh Mint production of this period. The shield is elaborately rendered with supporters visible at the base and the whole design occupies the majority of the reverse field. The encircling Latin legend MAG BR FR ET HIB REX ET REGINA is divided by the date 1690 at the top, with pellet and cross stops, running around the outer border. The legend appears inverted at the base as the die is oriented in medal alignment. |
