The circumferential Latin legend MAG · BR · FR · ET · HIB · REX · ET · REGINA with the date 1689 runs clockwise around the periphery, separated by interpuncts. A milled dentilated border frames the design. The heraldic composition is rendered in the bold, high-relief style typical of late seventeenth-century Scottish milled coinage. |
