Beschrijving keerzijde The brass centre depicts a pig (Sus scrofa domesticus) facing left, representing the Pig, the twelfth sign of the Chinese zodiac. The Chinese character '猪' (pig) appears in the centre field, partially extending onto the ring. The name 'PIG' is inscribed below the animal within the inner disc. The outer copper-nickel ring carries the legend 'CHINESE TWELVE ZODIAC' along the upper arc, with the date '2012' at the base flanked by dot spacers on either side.

Aanvullende informatie

Somaliland declared independence from Somalia in 1991 but remains unrecognized by any UN member state, making the Bank of Somaliland one of the few central banks issuing currency for a de facto state with no international monetary standing. The pig motif places this squarely in the Chinese lunar calendar collector series that Somaliland — a predominantly Muslim territory — produced purely for the export numismatic market, with no expectation of domestic circulation.

KM#77 is part of a broader run of bimetallic issues from this period aimed at novelty collectors. The "empty leaves" variety designation distinguishes it from companion strikes with filled leaf details in the reverse field.
