| Additional information |
Biafra's secessionist war against Nigeria ended in January 1970 with unconditional surrender, and the short-lived republic has not existed as a political entity since. Any coin issued under the "Biafra" name after that date is a private fantasy piece with no governmental authority behind it — the issuer here is a novelty manufacturer, not a state. The original Biafran coinage of 1969 was struck in aluminum and saw almost no circulation before the republic collapsed.
