| Additional information |
Somaliland declared independence from Somalia in 1991 following the collapse of the Barre regime, but has never received formal international recognition. It issues its own currency anyway. The Gemini piece is part of a zodiac series that circulated as genuine small-denomination coinage — not a novelty issue — in a state that technically does not exist under international law.
