Somalia's "Elephant" bullion series has no meaningful connection to the country itself — the coins are produced under licensing arrangements and marketed almost entirely to European and Asian collector markets. The series mimics the structure of the South African Krugerrand or Austrian Philharmonic as a fractional bullion product, with the 3.10 g size targeting buyers priced out of the 1 oz market.
