The Bank of Somaliland has issued a long-running wildlife series denominated in shillings despite Somaliland's currency having no recognition from any sovereign state or international financial institution. The "Capricorn" pieces form part of a zodiac subset within that program, struck for the collector market rather than domestic circulation — Somaliland's actual commerce runs largely on the older, heavily inflated Somaliland shilling or on US dollars.
