Reverse description The reverse features a bold frontal view of the conical modern Basilica of the Uganda Martyrs at Namugongo, rendered in fine relief with its distinctive ribbed, tent-like roof rising steeply from a broad base. Flanking the basilica in the field are stylized trees. The legend BANK OF UGANDA arcs along the upper periphery in large raised letters. Within the lower portion of a raised inner circle, the inscriptions UGANDA MARTYRS' SHRINE and NAMUGONGO appear on two lines, with the date 1969 at the very bottom of the field, flanked by two small olive or laurel sprigs. A beaded border frames the design.
