Somaliland declared independence from Somalia in 1991 but remains unrecognized by any UN member state. Its coinage is consequently issued outside any international monetary framework, and the Zodiac series to which this piece belongs was produced primarily for the collector market rather than domestic circulation. The "Full leaves" designation distinguishes this die variety from issues with reduced or partial leaf detail in the reverse field — a distinction meaningful only to type collectors, since neither saw significant use as currency.
