Kenya's 2010 constitution mandated the removal of presidential portraits from all public instruments — a direct reaction to decades of personalist rule under Kenyatta and Moi. Coins were among the affected items, and the Central Bank redesigned the circulating series accordingly. This 2018 issue belongs to that post-reform family.
