Additional information

Uganda's shilling coinage of the mid-1980s was issued against a backdrop of severe economic instability following the Obote II government's collapse and the NRA's seizure of power in January 1986. Yoweri Museveni's new administration inherited an economy gutted by years of mismanagement and civil conflict, and the nickel plated steel composition of this issue reflects the fiscal constraints on the Uganda Mint's procurement of traditional coinage alloys.

KM#30 is a short-lived type, superseded as currency reform and redenomination efforts gained traction through the late 1980s.
