Obverse description A vignette of a Chaplin's Barbet (Lybius chaplini) perched on a branch occupies the right portion of the note, with the Zambian coat of arms at upper centre flanked by guilloche ornaments. The central field carries the intaglio promise-to-pay text and denomination TEN SHILLINGS, with a Governor signature line below. Serial number and prefix appear at lower left and upper right, set against a finely engraved border of geometric and floral motifs.

Reverse description A pastoral agricultural vignette spans the full width of the reverse, showing a tractor ploughing a field in the foreground alongside a team of oxen at work, with trees and a farm structure in the background. Decorative floral and leaf borders frame the left and right margins, with the denomination numeral 10/- repeated at all four corners. The design is executed in intaglio in a warm brown tone.
