Opmerkingen

The Standard Bank's Salisbury branch issues are among the more historically weighted of the Southern African commercial bank series. Salisbury — now Harare — was the administrative centre of Southern Rhodesia, and the branch-named notes reflect a period when the Standard Bank operated quasi-central banking functions in the territory before the establishment of a dedicated Rhodesian currency authority. The window of issue spans both the wartime scarcity years and the consolidation of white settler governance through the 1920s, giving the series an unusually long run for a commercial branch issue.

Waterlow & Sons produced the plates, as they did for much of the Standard Bank's African network during this period. Known for tight intaglio work, their Rhodesian branch notes are generally well-executed — but the long issue span means paper and ink quality varies noticeably across dates within the same pick number.
