Additional information

Swaziland gained independence from British rule on September 6, 1968, and this pattern was struck in anticipation of that transition — part of the process of establishing a national coinage before the lilangeni system was formally adopted. Patterns from this period were produced in limited numbers, primarily for governmental approval and archive purposes, and most never entered circulation in any form.

The shilling denomination itself was soon abandoned entirely when Swaziland introduced the emalangeni in 1974.
