Obverse description The obverse features a stylized depiction of an ancient Hanukkah lamp (hanukkiah), rendered in a modernist artistic style. The design incorporates the scrolled prow of a boat-shaped oil lamp at left, with a central stem and eight branch-like oil receptacles with globular tips extending to the right. The State of Israel emblem — a menorah flanked by olive branches with the Hebrew legend 'ישראל' — appears in the upper center of the field. The country name is inscribed in three scripts around the lower and lateral periphery: 'ISRAEL' in Latin along the left, 'اسرائيل' in Arabic along the lower arc, and 'ישראל' in Hebrew along the right.
