| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central field occupied by large, bold Nasta'liq Arabic calligraphy reading the devotional phrase 'banda-yi Shah-i Wilayat Husayn' (Servant of the King of Sainthood, Husayn), flanked by floral arabesques and dot ornaments. Below the central legend, the mint name Isfahan (Isfahān) and the Hijri date 1118 are inscribed. The central inscription is enclosed within a double linear border. The surrounding marginal band contains the names of the twelve Shi'a Imams arranged in a continuous circular legend: Ali, Hasan, Husayn, Ali, Muhammad, Ja'far, Musa, Ali, Muhammad, Ali, Hasan, and Muhammad. The overall design is executed in a characteristically bold Safavid hammered style with floral interstices filling the field. |
