| 表面の説明 | Right-facing draped bust of Queen Salote Tupou III, wearing a pearl necklace, her hair styled in a low chignon. The effigy is rendered in high relief with strong modelling characteristic of the engraver James Berry. The legend SALOTE TUPOU III curves along the upper periphery, while the date 1967 appears in the lower field. The coin border is decorated with a continuous row of beads. |

Salote Tupou III ruled Tonga for nearly four decades and became internationally known largely through a single moment: her open-carriage appearance in the rain at Elizabeth II's 1953 coronation, which made her one of the most talked-about figures at the ceremony. This 1967 issue was struck just one year before her death, during the final phase of a reign that had steered Tonga through Japanese occupation in World War II without formal invasion of the main island group.
Tonga would achieve full independence from British protection in 1970 — she did not live to see it.
