| Additional information |
Tanumafili II held office longer than any other head of state in the world at the time of his death in 2007, having led Samoa — first as co-head of state, then sole head of state — since independence in 1962. This series spans the bulk of that tenure. The Central Bank of Samoa was itself only established in 1984, meaning earlier dates in this range were issued under the predecessor monetary authority.
