The B-series military yen — "B" standing simply for the second series of Allied Military Currency issued for Japan — were printed by the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing and introduced following Japan's formal surrender in September 1945. The designation had no battlefield significance; it distinguished these notes from the earlier A-series used in the Pacific campaign prior to the occupation proper.
Circulation was extensive throughout the occupation period, and surviving low-denomination examples like this 10 sen are common but frequently encountered in poor condition — small-value notes moved fast through street-level trade and were rarely saved.
