Brunei's Central Bank — Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam — replaced the Brunei Currency and Monetary Board in 2011, making issues from 2012 onward the first struck under the new authority. The 2022 date places this among the more recent emissions under that arrangement, with the third portrait series reflecting periodic updating of the Sultan's likeness across the coinage rather than any change in monetary policy or reign.
