10 Sen - Agong

This series spanned the reigns of four Yang di-Pertuan Agong — the 7th through 10th — as Malaysia's constitutional monarchy rotates the position among the rulers of the nine royal states on a five-year cycle. The design was updated with each new Agong, making date-and-effigy combinations a minor collecting discipline in their own right.

Copper-nickel coinage of this period was briefly threatened by the 1997–98 Asian financial crisis, during which coin hoarding and metal arbitrage pressures disrupted circulation across the region. Malaysian issues from 1997–1999 tend to show heavier wear from irregular handling patterns during the disruption.
