Obverse description Crowned quartered shield of the Order of St. John combined with the arms of Grand Master Manuel Pinto de Fonseca, centrally placed in the field and surrounded by elaborate mantling or foliate decoration. The shield is surmounted by a princely crown. The circular legend around the periphery reads the Grand Master's name and title, with the date 1761 appearing at the left. The coin is struck within a toothed or beaded border. The heraldic composition is rendered in fine relief characteristic of Maltese coinage of this period.
