10 Schilling

Austria's 1945 10 Schilling was issued under extraordinarily compressed circumstances — the Nationalbank was reconstituted in April 1945 while fighting was still ongoing in parts of the country, and a functional currency was needed almost immediately to prevent complete economic collapse in the Allied occupation zones. The result was a note produced in haste, using pre-existing plate work.

Rudolf Zenziger and Johann Salbaba were both engravers at the Austrian State Printing Office, and the note was produced domestically — a detail worth noting given how many Austrian issues of the immediate postwar period relied on foreign printers. Arthur Brusenbauch was a regular designer for the Staatsdruckerei across multiple series.

Pick 115 was superseded quickly as monetary reform progressed through 1945 and 1946.
