Thailand's aluminium 10 Satang has circulated largely as a rounding denomination since the country shifted to a consumption tax structure in the 1990s, but the 2018 issue carries specific weight: it was among the first coins struck bearing the portrait of Vajiralongkorn following his formal coronation cycle, replacing the long-running Bhumibol Adulyadej series after the late king's death in October 2016. The transition required the Royal Thai Mint to retire dozens of circulating types simultaneously — an unusually large changeover for a single succession.
