The "Baru" (New) designation distinguishes this issue from the earlier Oeang Republik Indonesia emissions and reflects the monetary reorganization following the Dutch transfer of sovereignty in December 1949 — though this particular note was actually prepared before that transfer was finalized, during a period of intense diplomatic and military pressure on the Republic. Indonesia was simultaneously fighting a guerrilla war and negotiating at The Hague.
Pick 35E denotes a specific signature and serial variety within the broader 35 series. These sub-varieties are frequently misattributed in general collections.
