Daerah Karesidenan Kediri was one of several Indonesian residency-level authorities that issued their own emergency currency during the Indonesian National Revolution — a period when the fledgling Republic struggled to maintain monetary control against Dutch military pressure. These residency notes filled a practical vacuum: central Republican currency was scarce, and local administrations needed something the population would accept. The Kediri issues of 1948 fall squarely in that emergency framework.
Pick 113B is among the rarer variants within the Kediri series. Survival rates for these provincial revolutionary notes are low; many were withdrawn and destroyed once Bank Indonesia consolidated monetary authority after independence was secured.
