Issued to mark the 125th birth anniversary of Sri Aurobindo Ghose, the philosopher and nationalist who spent his early career agitating against British rule before his 1908 arrest on sedition charges in connection with the Alipore Bomb Case. Acquitted after a year in custody, he withdrew from politics entirely and relocated to Pondicherry — then French territory — where he remained until his death in 1950, beyond the reach of British jurisdiction.
