| 正面描述 | Within a raised inner circle, a leaping leopard is depicted in the upper field above two dolphins swimming amid stylised waves in the lower field, representing the wildlife of the Puttalam district. The district name appears in the legend along the upper periphery in Tamil, Sinhala, and Latin script respectively. The date 2013 is inscribed in the exergue below the inner circle. The coin's hendecagonal flan features faceted edges visible between the inner circle and the rim. |

Puttalam District is home to Sri Lanka's largest lagoon and the country's dominant salt production industry — the town was chosen for this regional commemorative series issued by the Central Bank to mark the 150th anniversary of municipal councils in Sri Lanka. The series, launched progressively from around 2013, paired standard circulation specifications with district-specific reverses across the island's administrative divisions.
AISI 430 ferritic stainless steel was adopted for Sri Lankan coinage partly to combat the chronic melting and hoarding that plagued earlier cupronickel issues when base metal prices spiked in the 2000s.
