| Obverse description | Within a raised inner circle, a detailed depiction of the Dondra Head Lighthouse (Devinuwara) rising prominently from a rocky islet, flanked by palm trees and a keeper's cottage, with stylised ocean waves in the foreground. The scene is rendered in fine relief with naturalistic detail. The trilingual legend reading the city name in Tamil, Sinhala, and Latin ('Matara') arcs along the upper portion of the border, outside the inner circle.
