| 正面描述 | Right-facing bust of President James Mancham, engraved in high relief with finely detailed hair and a short beard, dressed in a suit and tie. The effigy is centrally positioned within the field, occupying most of the coin's face. The circular legend REPUBLIC OF SEYCHELLES arcs around the periphery, rendered in bold raised lettering. The overall design is executed in a clean, portrait style characteristic of the engraver Michael Rizzello. |

Seychelles gained independence from Britain on June 29, 1976, ending over 160 years of colonial administration. France Albertini René's coup the following year — just months after these proof sets were issued — abruptly ended the brief experiment with multi-party democracy that independence was supposed to inaugurate. The commemorative program was already in collectors' hands before the political situation unraveled.
The .925 silver proof was struck alongside a base metal circulation version, with the proof reserved for the international numismatic market rather than domestic use.
