10 Rupees - Birendra Bir Bikram Constitution

This issue marks Nepal's promulgation of the 1990 constitution, which ended the Panchayat system of partyless governance that Birendra's father Mahendra had imposed in 1960. The shift came only after widespread pro-democracy protests — the Jana Andolan movement — forced the king's hand. Birendra, who had resisted reform through most of his reign, ultimately signed the document restoring multiparty democracy in November 1990, four years before this coin reached circulation.
