| Reverse description | The reverse displays, within the copper-nickel center, a composite design featuring the university's iconic Vishwanath Temple gateway flanked by the official seal of Banaras Hindu University, which depicts Lord Vishnu. The legend 'शताब्दी वर्ष CENTENARY YEAR' arches across the upper portion of the inner disc. The founding year '1916' appears to the left and the centenary year '2016' to the right in the field. The aluminum-bronze outer ring bears the institution's name in Devanagari 'काशी हिन्दू विश्वविद्यालय' along the upper arc and 'BANARAS HINDU UNIVERSITY' in Latin script along the lower arc, with a mint mark star at the bottom. |
