Arching above the numeral along the upper rim, the country name appears in three scripts: Sinhala (ශ්රී ලංකා), Tamil (இலங்கை), and Latin (SRI LANKA). Below the numeral, the denomination legend is inscribed in three lines reading 'රුපියල් දහයයි' in Sinhala, 'ரூபாய் பத்து' in Tamil, and 'TEN RUPEES' in Latin script. The year of issue appears at the bottom of the field. The entire design is enclosed by a decorative repeating border following the hendecagonal coin shape. |

Sri Lanka's shift to stainless steel for this denomination came as part of a broader rationalization of the island's coinage following persistent issues with the earlier bimetallic composition, which proved costly relative to face value. The Central Bank had been caught in the familiar trap of a coin worth more as metal than as currency.
