Obverse description Portrait of Queen Elizabeth II facing left occupies the left third of the note, set within a fine guilloche border. The denomination TEN RUPEES appears in bold intaglio lettering at centre, with the issue date printed below in red; the numeral 10 appears in each corner. A legal tender clause in English is printed in a panel to the right of the portrait, with trilingual inscriptions in Sinhala and Tamil also present.

Reverse description The reverse carries an elaborate central vignette of the Ceylon coat of arms flanked by scrollwork and guilloche underprint in green.
